First Annual Adult Poetry Contest

Calling all poets!

Celebrate National Poetry Month Early

We know that the Children's and Young Adult's poetry contests have become an honored tradition in Allen County for hundreds of kids. We think it's time that adults joined in the fun!

The simple act of writing poetry can be therapeutic and meditative when we allow our minds to relax and be silent. Take some time this month and think about our theme of HOME. What does that word bring forth in your mind?

Compose a HOME poem (or 3) this month and drop it off at any ACPL location. Don't judge your words as you write- grant yourself permission to write the words that come to you. Be patient and enjoy yourself.

All participants are invited to the Awards Ceremony on April 28 where the winners will be announced by Joyce Brinkman, Indiana's Poet Laureate. There will also be time to listen to poetry, mingle and exchange ideas.

Entries will be accepted at all ACPL branch locations between March 1 and April 1. The contest is open to adult residents of Allen County who are 18 and over. Call Kerri or Carla in the Readers' Services department at 260-421-1235 with questions.

Home and Garden

You can definitely tell the Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show starts tomorrow. Our garden design books have been slipping and sliding all over the shelves as people browse the area. But there are still many books available. So stop by the library on the way to or from the show and start planning your spring and summer projects.
