Chess tournaments
Allen County Public Library hosts two chess tournaments in August: one for children in preschool to those entering 5th grade and one for teens from 6th to 12th grades. The tournaments are unrated and they're mostly for fun. I can't say non-competitive, though, because that wouldn't be true ...We're still accepting late registrations for both tournaments. The Children's Department will host their tournament this Saturday, August 4, at the Main Library, with a players' meeting at 9:15 am and first round play at 9:45 am. Pick up a registration form in the Children's Department or at any branch, or register online at http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/children/chess_form.html.
The Young Adults' Services Department will host their tournament on Saturday, August 11, at the Main Library, with a players' meeting at 9:15 am and first round play beginning at 9:45 am. Pick up a registration form in the Young Adults' Services Department or at any branch, or call 421-1255 to register.
If you can't make the tournament, or if you're no longer qualified to play because of being ... less young, we'd still love to see you at the ACPL All Ages Chess Club, which meets every Saturday (except during the tournaments - next meeting is Saturday, August 18!) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Main Library downtown.
